Introduction

The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme is promoted by the Government of Malaysia to allow foreigners who fulfill the criteria of MM2H, to stay in Malaysia, on a multiple-entry social visit pass.

Successful applications will be granted a social visit pass for a period of ten (10) years, and it is renewable.

It is open to citizens of all countries recognized by Malaysia regardless of race, religion, gender or age. This programme allows applicants to bring with them their spouses and children below the age of 21 as dependents.

 

Financial Requirements

Applicants are expected to be financially capable of supporting themselves on this programme in Malaysia.

Upon application:

  • Applicants aged below 50 years are required to show proof of liquid assets worth a minimum of RM500,000 and offshore income of RM10,000 per month. For certified copy(s) of Current account submitted as financial proof, applicants must provide the latest 3 months' statement with each month's credit balance of RM500,000. For monthly offshore in come, there must be latest 3 months'  income statement with corresponding deposits, of which must be certified copy(s). 

  • Applicants aged 50 and above may comply with the financial proof of RM350,000 in liquid assets and offshore income of Rm10,000 per month. For For certified copy(s) of Current account submitted as financial proof, applicants must provide the latest 3 months' statement with each month's credit balance of RM350,000. For monthly offshore in come, there must be latest 3 months'  income statement with corresponding deposits, of which must be certified copy(s). For those who have retired, they are required to show proof of receiving pension from government of RM10,000 per month. 

  • Approved participant who has purchase and own property which was bought RM1 million and above in Malaysia may state his/hers intention in letter of application during submission to lower down basic fixed deposit requirement. 

 

Upon Approval

Age Below 50 years old

  • Open a fixed deposit account of RM300,000
  • After a period of one (1) year, the participant can withdraw up to RM150,000 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes. 

  • Must maintain a minimum balance of Rm150,000 from second year onwards and throughout stay in Malaysia under this programme.

Approved participant who has purchased and own property which was bought at RM1 million and above in Malaysia may state his/her intention in letter of application during submission to lower down basic fixed deposit requirement of RM300,000 to RM150,000 on condition that the property has been fully paid and ownership documents such as grant and land title have already been issued. This amount may not be withdrawn until the participant decides to terminate his/her participation in MM2H programme. 

Aged 50 years and above

  • Can with choose to 
  • - Open a fixed deposit account of RM150,000; or
    - Show proof of receiving pension from government RM10,000 per month
  • After a period of one (1) year, participant who fulfills the fixed deposit criterion can withdraw up to RM50,000 for approved expenses relating to house purchase, education for children in Malaysia and medical purposes. 

  • Participant must maintain a minimum balance of Rm100,000 from the second year onward and throughout his/her stay in Malaysia under this programme.

Approved participant who has purchased and own property which was bought at RM1 million and above in Malaysia may state his/her intention in letter of application during submission to lower down basic fixed deposit requirement of rm 150,000 to RM100,000 on condition that the property has been fully paid and ownership documents such as grant and land title have already been issued. This amount may not be withdrawn until the participant decides to terminate his/her participation in MM2H programme. 

 

Others

Medical Report

  • All applicants and their dependents are required to submit a medical report from any private hospital or registered clinic in Malaysia.

Medical Insurance

  • Approved applicants and their dependents must possess valid medical insurance coverage that is applicable in Malaysia from any insurance company. However, exemptions maybe given for participants who face difficulty in obtaining a medical insurance due to their age or medical condition. 

Personal Bond (Application through Agent)
Licensed companies are required to provide the personal bond for their clients who have been approved under the MM2H programme. 

 

Benefits - House Purchase

Any foreigner may purchase any number of residential property in Malaysia, subject to the minimum price established fro foreigners by the respective states. They start from RM500,000 per unit for most states (as of 1st March, 2014). Land is a state matter and it is important to check state laws before making any commitment, as the minimum purchase price is not standardized between each states.

It is highly recommended to buy homes which are already issued with certificates of fitness (CF), however, if there is intention to purchase from developers, ensure that it is a reputable company. 

 

Benefits - Purchase Or Import A Car

Car Purchase

The MM2H participant may purchase one (1) new motorcar made or assembled in Malaysia. He/she will be exempted from paying excise duty on the new motorcar. 

An application to PURCHASE a new motorcar made or assembled in Malaysia must be forwarded to the Ministry of Finance within a period of one year from the endorsement date of Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) social visit pass. A booking for a motorcar maybe made prior to obtaining approval from the Ministry of Finance. However, it is advised against outright purchase of the motorcar before obtaining approval for tax/duty exemption from the Ministry of Finance. 

Import Personal Car

The MM2H participant may import one motorcar, which belongs to him/her country of citizenship or last domiciled. Ownership of the vehicle must be of minimum 6 months prior to Malaysia My Second Home programme application. He/she will be exempted from paying import duty and excise duty on the imported motorcar. 

Application to IMPORT a motorcar from the participant's country of citizenship/last domicile must be forwarded to the Ministry of Finance within a period of six (6) months from the endorsement date of Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) social visit pass. 

Note :

  • Participants are only allowed to sell their imported/locally purchased motorcar after 2 year's stay on the programme. Should the wish to sell their imported/locally purchase car, they are subjected to repayment of import duty, and excise duty according to the prevailing rates.

  • Importation or purchase of motorcar must be for personal use only and not for commercial use.

  • The MM2H participant is eligible for tax/duty exemption for only ONE (1) motorcar.

 

Benefit - Others

Apply for A Helper
Each applicant is allowed to apply for one maid subject to the prevailing guidelines of the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

Education 
MM2H participants are allowed to bring their children below the age of 21 years old and not married as their dependents. 

Bringing in Your Pets
Successful applicant can bring in pets, in accordance to the regulation of the Department of Veterinary Services. 

Tax
Tax Exemption is given to remittance of offshore pension fund brought into Malaysia and any other foreign funds transferred into Malaysia.

Business & Investment
MM2H visa holders can own business in Malaysia as director(s) of company, with terms apply.

Working Part Time
Applicants above the age of 50, can work part time, with terms apply.

Other
Import of personal/household items, tax exempted.
Invest in lova companies, share market and unit trusts.
Interest gained from bank fixed deposit is tax exempted.
Parents of main applicant can join in as dependents under a renewable visa (6 monthly).
